O Número de Identificação de Segurança Social (NISS) - Social security number

Once you have your NIF, you can go to the social security office and ask for an NISS.

If you start working/doing business, you will not conclude an employment contract as an employee without NISS. Here, part of the social security is deducted from your salary, and in case of loss of employment, sickness, maternity, old-age or disability pension, you handle everything through your NISS.
